This new second edition of the handbook and 4 DVDs set shows you a huge range of moves including pendulums, circles, heart shaped swings, hand changes, wrist twists, throwing, tossing and flipping clubs, lunges and squats with clubs, combinations and routines and how to use the Gada/mace for swinging.

Contributors include Mike Simpson, Mr Krishen Jalli, Russell Ogata, Susan Poulos and Paul Wolkowinski.

There is also a section on the anatomy and physiology of Indian club swinging which explains, with detailed diagrams, how the shoulder and rotator cuff is exercised using Indian clubs.

Sim D. Kehoe Replica Clubs - New (August 2011)

               SDK1                  SDK2                      SDK3

The SDK3 club is a replica of an original Sim D. Kehoe club (circa 1866) with the dimensions obtained from a friend in the USA and weighs 5 kg approx. The SDK2 (4 kg) and SDK1 (2.8 kg) are the same basic profile but the diameter of the largest section is reduced proportionately to give a smaller weight of club but retaining the shape and design of the original club. These are wonderful clubs to swing, beautifully balanced and yet present a real challenge to swing. Prices are on application simply because of the amount of wood used in these clubs. Tel: (0114) 2344480 or 07716516475 or via the web site: www.indianclubswinging.co.uk

Traditional Victorian Style Replica Clubs

Traditional Victorian Clubs (Type V1)

Traditional Victorian Clubs (Type V2)

These beautiful little clubs (above) are based on an antique design of club borrowed from a friend. They are ideal for fancy club swinging and for children. They are light (0.4 kg, 14 oz) durable and very well balanced.

These clubs are copies of an antique pair of clubs. They are light and similar in characteristics to the traditional tear drop shaped clubs. They are great for twirling and some fancy club swinging. They are light (0.35 kg, 12 oz) and ideal for children.

Traditional Victorian Clubs (Type V3)

Traditional Victorian Clubs (Type V4)

These clubs are also copies of an antique pair of clubs. They are slightly heavier than type V2 (0.625 kg, 1 lbs 6 oz) and similar in characteristics to the traditional tear drop shaped clubs. They are great for twirling and some fancy club swinging. They are ideal for children.

These clubs are based on a pair of clubs found in an attic by one of our group here in Sheffield. The original clubs were weighted with lead inserts but these are made in solid beech (1.25 kg, 2 lbs 12 oz). Weight can be added to these clubs if desired.

Traditional Tear Drop Design

Traditional Tear Drop Design

These light clubs (left) are based on the original Spalding design of clubs often used in schools and by Scouts, Guides and Women’s groups in the early part of the 20th century and often seen on old films of children and women’s groups.

These light clubs (0.34 kg, 5.5 oz) are great to swing, ideal for children and useful for some types of fancy club swinging.

Traditional Victorian Clubs (Type V5)

Traditional Victorian Clubs (Type V5)

These clubs are based on a pair of antique clubs that were repaired for a friend. The design is old but it is not clear how old.

These relatively light clubs weigh approximately 1.2 kg (2 lbs 10 oz) and are excellent for swinging. They have a nice weight and reasonable balance. These clubs are approximately 560 mm high.

We can repair damaged and broken clubs so that they can be used again or we can make new copies in various woods to match the original clubs.

Please contact us about your requirements. Tel: (0114) 2344480 or 07716516475 or via the web site:

The Cobbett and Jenkin (1893) Replica Range of Clubs

            CJ1               CJ2                 CJ3 (9)                  CJ4 (10)

The Full Range of Sizes of the Cobbett and Jenkin (1893) Designs

The diagrams for these clubs were shown in the book “Indian Clubs” by G.T.B Cobbett and A.F. Jenkin published in 1893. The authors recommended these clubs as ideal for the techniques described in their book. We have experimented with these clubs and can confirm they are wonderful clubs, perfectly designed and balanced and in varnished beech they are very aesthetically pleasing. They are ideal for heavy club swinging styles such as the Persian Zurkhaneh and Indian wrestler style.

These Victorian club replicas follow exactly the dimensions of the clubs illustrated by Cobbett and Jenkin with one minor exception. The smaller club has a rounded button instead of a flat button. This has been found to be the most comfortable design. Please note these clubs are a little longer than the clubs normally used for the British Military style but may be ideal for the larger person and for the heavier styles of club swinging.

Size CJ3 (9)   CJ4 (10)

Traditional Heavy Clubs and Very Heavy Clubs.

These clubs are based on the original 1893 designs of G.T.B Cobbett and A.F. Jenkin in their book on Indian Clubs. These clubs swing well and are ideally proportioned for heavy club swinging using the Zurkhaneh style as used by Indian and Persian wrestlers and as demonstrated by Mr Krishen Jalli on the DVD available from this catalogue.

Size CJ3 (9) Clubs can be made in Beech in weights from 4kg (8.8lbs) to 7kg (15.4lbs) approximately.

Size CJ4 (10) Clubs can be made in Beech in weights from 10Kg (22lbs) to 15kg (33lbs) and for special items up to 25kg (55lbs). Please contact us about your requirements. Tel: (0114) 2344480 or 07716516475 or via the web site:

www.indianclubswinging.co.uk

      5  CJ3 (9)  CJ4 (10)

For comparison here is the size 5 club compared with the size CJ3 (9) and CJ4 (10) clubs. The compact design of Cobbett and Jenkin’s (1893) clubs makes these clubs very easy to handle and use and they are a joy to swing. Clubs pictured are varnished.

These heavier clubs are aimed at the genuine enthusiast and we are more than happy to discuss individual requirements. Please contact us about your requirements. Tel: (0114) 2344480 or 07716516475 or via the web site:

Note 1. A standard leather skipping rope is 9 feet long and weighs less than 250grams (0.5lb).

Note 2. Any length of rope can be made to order. Please contact us for information and advice. Please contact us about your requirements. Tel: (0114) 2344480 or 07716516475 or via the web site: www.indianclubswinging.co.uk

Note 3. All weights are approximate and the final weight of a skipping rope will depend on the length of rope required and the diameter of rope required. Other rope diameters are available.

Note 4. There is footage on the Indian club swinging DVD showing how these ropes are used. These ropes require considerable skill and strength to skip (jump rope) with and are quite a challenge to use.

Note 5. The grip on the handles of the skipping rope are a standard size made from beech and are much easier to use than the bare rope which can ‘burn’ the hands and ‘wind up’ in use.

Notes on Indian Clubs:

All weights are approximate for clubs made from Beech. We try to ensure that for a pair of clubs each club weighs approximately the same.

Clubs made from American Poplar are lighter and can be made to the same pattern on request. This might be useful for physiotherapy work or for children on sizes 1, 2 and the traditional ‘tear drop’ design.

Indian clubs can be made to any given design or weight up to 3.3m long and 18inches in diameter. Please contact us for advice or details.

All clubs are made from either Beech or American Poplar from sustainable forests in the north of England and are produced locally. Other woods and treatments other than clear varnish are available on request. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

Tel: (0114) 2344480 or 07716516475 or Email: m.simpson@sheffield.ac.uk

Please Note:

The price of wood can change dramatically. We have kept our prices the same for two years (May 2008 to October 2010) by speculating on the price of wood, and relying on some goodwill and discounts but it has become impossible to predict our prices accurately. The increase in VAT has increased our prices and this is regrettable. Please contact us for prices on all items before ordering.

Larger items are particularly difficult to price accurately due to the amount of wood involved. If you are interested in any of our products or want special items making that are not listed we strongly urge you to contact us about your requirements.
